Anti-gay protesters were at the march, but were outnumbered by the gay and lesbian supporters. Scuffles did occur between both groups. 

Save Our Children

Anita Bryant led an anti-gay campaign a called "Save Our Children". This campaign was based on conservative Christian beliefs on the "sinfulness" of homosexuality. She claimed that homosexuals were a danger to children. Bryant was a brand ambassador for a orange juice company, so the gay community retaliated against her by boycotting orange juice.

The Media's Opposition

The media did not cover the March on Washington.  The media would not say the word gay or lesbian, but insead referred to them as "a vowed homosexuals".
